How to become a commercial airline pilot?

Today, more than ever, the airline industry needs highly trained and skilled professionals for the growing industry to safely fly over 5 bn. passengers annually to their destinations.
Being a Commercial Pilot also comes with a lot of responsibility, complex decision making and the ability to understand and cope with abnormal situations.

What is the Zero to Airline Transport Pilot License 0-ATPL(A)?

0-ATPL(A) course is designed for students with little to no flying experience and that want to pursue a career in aviation according to EASA regulations.
Flying Academy is highly specialized in offering training from ab-initio to “frozen” ATPL(A). You will start with PPL(A) and, upon obtaining the necessary flight experience, will continue with IR(A), MEP (multi-engine aircraft) and CPL(A) flight programs.
After successful completion of the zero to ATPL(A) course, you will be issued an EASA CPL(A) license with ATPL(A) theory completed and will be authorized to act as a co-pilot (First Officer) on aircraft engaged in commercial air transportation and exercise all the privileges of a holder of a PPL, MEP/IR and CPL.

What are the 0-ATPL(A) course entry requirements?

The 0-ATPL(A) course entry requirements are as follows:

  1. to be at least 16 years old
    You need to be at least 16 years old (PPL license can be issued at the age of 17 years and CPL license can be issued at the age of 18 years).
  2. to be Class 1 Medical holder
    You need to be physically fit for commercial flying (capable of holding a Pilot Medical Certificate Class 1 link to the article about EASA medical).
  3. to be proficient in the English language
    During the PPL(A) training link, you will obtain ICAO English Language Proficiency check link minimum level 4 and during IR(A) training link, you will extend the privileges of ICAO English Language Proficiency check to IFR.
  4. to have sufficient knowledge of Mathematics and Physics
    You must be able to make some basic mental calculation and have a minimum of knowledge in Mathematics and Physics, no degree or scholarship are needed but an evaluation will be done by the Academy.

Which modules are there in 0-ATPL(A) training?

The EASA Commercial Pilot from 0-ATPL(A) training consists of the following modules:

  1. Private Pilot License
    Private Pilot License – PPL(A) module consists of theoretical training and 45 hours of practical training.
  2. Night Rating
    Night Rating training contains theoretical training and 5 hours of practical training.
  3. Airline Transport Pilot License
    This module will prepare you for ATPL theory exams at the Civil Aviation Authority of the Czech Republic.
  4. Instrument Rating (practical training)
    Instrument Rating – IR(A) includes 50 hours of practical training and also extensive ground training with prolonged briefings and debriefings after each flight lesson.
  5. Multi-Engine Piston Rating (practical training)
    Multi-Engine Piston – MEP(A) class rating contains 11 hours of practical training (6 hours of VFR training and 5 hours of IFR training) and theoretical training.
  6. Commercial Pilot License (practical training)
    Commercial Pilot License – CPL(A) training consists of 15 hours of practical training and theoretical training.
  7. Time Building
    After obtaining you will be building your PIC hours at your own pace throughout the training.

Theoretical preparation and practical training are done concurrently – we offer a perfect combination of both without wasting your time.

What will I do during my Commercial pilot from 0-ATPL(A) training?

1. Ground training

Theoretical preparation lays the foundation for practical flight training.
During the zero to ATPL course, you will complete theoretical courses for PPL(A), IR(A), MEP(A), CPL(A) and ATPL 650(A).
Throughout the 0-ATPL(A) training, you will cover the following subjects:

  • Air law and ATC procedures
  • Airframes & Systems, Electrics, Power Plant, Emergency Equipment
  • Instrumentation
  • Mass and Balance
  • Performance
  • Flight Planning & Monitoring
  • Human Performance & Limitations
  • Meteorology
  • General Navigation
  • Radio Navigation

2. Flight Training

At the end of the flight training, you will have at least 200 hours total time (including PPL time), out of which:

  • 100 hours as pilot-in-command,
  • 20 hours of VFR cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command, including a cross-country flight of 540 km (300 NM) with full-stop landings at two aerodromes different from the aerodrome of departure,
  • 5 hours of night flying including one cross-country flight and 5 solo take-offs and
    5 landings,
  • 5 hours on a complex airplane.

3. Theoretical Examinations

At the end of the PPL module, you will have to pass theoretical exams at the CAA testing 9 subjects (Meteorology, Navigation, Communications, Aircraft General Knowledge, Principles of Flight, Air Law, Flight Performance and Planning, Human Performance and Limitations, Operational Procedures).
For the ATPL theory, you will have to pass 14 exams to prove a sufficient level of knowledge appropriate for the privileges of the holder of an ATPL (A) in accordance with the EASA Part FCL requirements.

4. Practical Examinations

After successful completion of the written exams, you will have to pass practical skill exams.
There are 4 practical exams at the end of each module: PPL, IR, MEP, and CPL.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to:

  • Operate the airplane within its limitations,
  • Complete all manoeuvres as smooth and as accurate as requested by the EASA,
  • Exercise good judgment and airmanship,
  • Apply aeronautical knowledge,
  • Maintain control of the airplane at all times.

How much does the Zero to Airline Transport Pilot License 0-ATPL(A) course cost?

¿Qué es la Licencia de Cero a Piloto de Transporte de Aerolíneas-

0-ATPL(A)?

El curso de 0-ATPL(A) está diseñado para estudiantes con poco o sin experiencia en vuelo, y que quieren como propósito  una carrera en la aviación de acuerdo a las regulaciones de la EASA.
Flying Academy está altamente especializada en ofrecer entrenamientos desde ab inicio a la ATPL (A) congelada. Empezarás con PPL(A) y luego de obtener la experiencia necesaria de vuelo, continuarás con los programas de vuelo para IR(A), MEP (multi-engine aircraft) y CPL(A).
Después de completar con éxito el curso de cero a ATPL (A), emitirás una licencia de CPL (A) de la EASA y también la teoría de la  ATPL(A)  completada y estarás autorizado para actuar como co piloto ( Primer oficial) en un avión destinado al transporte comercial aéreo y ejercer todos los privilegios de ser titular de una PPL, MEP/IR y CPL.

¿Cuáles son los requisitos para entrar al curso de 0-ATPL(A)?

Los requisitos para entrar al curso de 0-ATPL(A) son los siguientes:

  1. Tener al menos 16 años de edad.
    Necesitarás tener al menos 16 años de edad (La licencia PPL puede ser emitida a la edad de los 17 años de edad y la licencia de CPL puede ser emitida a los 18 años de edad).
  2. Ser titular del certificado médico clase 1.
    Necesitarás estar físicamente en forma para el vuelo comercial ( Ser capaz de poseer un certificado médico para pilotos clase 1 de la EASA).
  3. Ser proficiente en el idioma Inglés.
    Durante el entrenamiento obtendrás la evaluación del Idioma Inglés proficiente de ICAO y en un mínimo de nivel 4 para pasar, durante el entrenamiento de IR, extenderás los privilegios  del Idioma Inglés proficiente ICAO evaluado a IFR.
  4. Tener suficiente conocimiento de Matemáticas y Física.
    Deberás ser capaz de realizar algunos cálculos básicos mentales y tener un mínimo de conocimiento de Física y Matemáticas, no se necesita tener un título o beca escolar, pero se podrá hacer  una evaluación en la Academia.

¿Cuales módulos estarán en el entrenamiento de 0-ATPL(A)?

El entrenamiento de Piloto Comercial de la EASA desde Cero experiencia a ATPL (A) consiste de los siguientes módulos:

  1. Licencia de Piloto Privado.
    El módulo de PPL(A) consiste del entrenamiento teórico y 45 horas de entrenamiento práctico.
  2. Calificación de vuelo Nocturno.
    El módulo de NR(A) contiene el entrenamiento teórico y 5 horas de entrenamiento práctico.
  3. La licencia de Piloto de Transporte de Aerolíneas.
    Este módulo te preparará para los exámenes de la teoría de la ATPL  en la Autoridad Civil de la Aviación de la República Checa.
  4. Habilitación de Instrumentos (Entrenamiento práctico).
    IR(A) incluye 50 horas de entrenamiento práctico  y también un extenso entrenamiento en tierra.
  5. Calificación de Multi motor a pistón ( Entrenamiento práctico).
    La habilitación de Multi-Motor a  Pistón – MEP(A) contiene 11 horas de entrenamiento práctico ( 6 horas de entrenamiento VFR y 5 horas de entrenamiento  IFR ) y entrenamiento práctico.
  6. Licencia de Piloto Comercial ( Entrenamiento práctico)
    el entrenamiento de CPL(A) consiste de 15 horas de entrenamiento práctico y teórico.
  7. Time Building.
    Este módulo es para hacer la recopilación de tu horas de vuelo como Piloto en Comando (PIC) a tu propio ritmo durante el entrenamiento.

La preparación teórica y entrenamiento prácticos se pueden realizar simultáneamente, Ofrecemos una perfecta combinación de ambos entrenamientos sin hacer perder tu tiempo.

¿Qué haré durante el entrenamiento  para Piloto Comercial desde 0-ATPL (A)?

1. Entrenamiento Teórico

La preparación teórica sienta las bases para el entrenamiento práctico.
Durante el curso de cero a ATPL (A), completarás el curso teórico para los módulos  PPL(A), IR(A), MEP(A), CPL(A) and ATPL 650(A).
A lo largo del entrenamiento 0-ATPL(A), cubrirás los siguientes temas:

  • Leyes de la aeronáutica y procedimientos ATC.
  • Estructura del avión  & Sistemas Eléctricos, Planta de energía, Equipos de Emergencia.
  • Instrumentación.
  • Masa y Balance.
  • Desempeño.
  • Planificación de vuelo & Monitoreo.
  • Desempeño humano & Limitaciones.
  • Meteorología.
  • Navegación General.
  • Radio Navegación.
  • Procedimientos operacionales.
  • Principios de Vuelo.
  • Comunicaciones.

2. Entrenamiento de vuelo

Al final del entrenamiento de vuelo, tendrás al menos 200 horas de tiempo total (incluyendo el tiempo de PPL), de los cuales:

  • 100 horas como piloto en comando.
  • 20 horas de tiempo de vuelo VFR (cross-country)  como piloto en comando, incluyendo un vuelo de cross country de 540 km (300 NM) con aterrizaje y parada completa  en dos aeropuertos diferentes al aeropuerto de salida.
  • 5 horas de vuelo nocturno, incluyendo un vuelo y 5 solo despegues y 5 aterrizajes.
  • 5 horas en un avión complejo.

3. Exámenes teóricos

Al final del módulo de PPL, tendrás que pasar, los exámenes teóricos  en el centro de exámenes de la CAA en lo cual se evaluarán 9 temas (Meteorología, Navegación, Comunicaciones, Conocimientos general del avión,  Principios de vuelo, Leyes de la Aeronáutica, Desempeño en vuelo y planificación, Desempeño Humano y Limitaciones, Procedimientos Operacionales).
Para la teoría de la ATPL, tendrás que pasar 14 exámenes para probar un suficiente nivel de conocimiento apropiado para el privilegio de emitir una ATPL (A) de acuerdo con los requerimientos de la EASA, parte FCL.

4. Exámenes Prácticos

Luego de completar con éxito los exámenes escritos, tendrás que pasar los exámenes de habilidades prácticas.
Hay 4 exámenes prácticos  al final de cada módulo: PPL, IR, MEP, y CPL.
Necesitarás demostrar la habilidad para:

  • Operar el avión dentro de sus limitaciones.
  • Completar todas la maniobras de manera suave y precisa como lo requiere la EASA.
  • Ejecutar buen desempeño y maestría del avión.
  • Aplicar los conocimientos aeronáuticos.
  • Mantener el control del avión en todo momento.

¿Cuánto tiempo puede tomar completar el curso de 0-ATPL(A)?
